The plan so far..

The day of departure is drawing ever closer so time to start blogging. This is my first ever blog so bear with me whilst I get the hang of it!
Flight to Cairo is booked for 10th May. Whenever I tell people that I am flying to Cairo, it is invariably met with a look of horror. Rest assured, I am reliably informed that Cairo is once again a safe place to travel and keen to welcome tourists back. Once in Cairo, I will be embarking upon an epic overland journey - the Cairo to Cape Town 20 week trip with Odyssey Overland, taking in 15 different countries. In fact so many, I'm not even sure that I can list them all without referring to the trip notes. Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland, and South Africa. I have wanted to do a big overland trip through Africa for many years so it is hard to believe that it is finally going to become a reality.
Having decided to take the plunge, sell my house, quit my job and travel, I thought it made sense to see as much of the world as possible so I am working on my plans post Africa. To date, I have booked flights from Cape Town to Perth, Perth to Sydney, and then Sydney to Auckland. I also plan to visit SE Asia and India. That's as far as the plan goes for now. Many people have advised me not to plan too much in advance and just see how things pan out. Good advice, I'm sure, but not so easy to follow when you are a naturally organised person who likes to have a plan! May be once I get to Africa, I will chill out a little and go with the flow...
